Color Me {Let's Kick Off}

Well...I guess today means summer is officially over. Don't be sad though, with the end of summer comes the start of football season. We will now trade in our Saturdays at the beach for Saturdays spent watching our beloved Noles play ball. As we gather around the television, I'll put out platters of food, pitchers of cocktails, and deck the house in all things garnet and gold.  Every year, football season brings back fond memories of my college days spent down by the stadium tailgating in the hot sun with friends. Even as the days got cooler, we would be out there every Saturday without fail. So, as we gear up to watch the Noles season opener tonight, take in a bit of tailgate inspiration as you get ready to cheer on your favorite team all season!

Have a safe Labor Day!

Weekend Warriors {9.7.12}

Happy Friday y'all! I know it was a short work week, but I'm glad the weekend is here again. During the fall, my weekends are filled with tailgating, bonfires, and many celebrations. This weekend is no different. While it's still a bit too hot for a roaring fire we will be tailgating and celebrating some birthdays. Here's my list of to-dos this weekend!

1. Feel the Spirit: Cheer on your team this weekend in style. Spread the team spirit by sporting your teams colors from head to toe. Bring a grill, a cornhole set, and plenty of grub to tailgate all day and get ready to cheer your team to victory.

2. Celebrate: Whether it be a birthday, anniversary, promotion at work, or a day off, throw a celebration this weekend. There doesn't need to be a special occasion to bust out the balloons, confetti, and cake. If you ask me, a Saturday is plenty reason enough!

3. Be Fashionable: New York Fashion Week is in full swing. I know I will be taking some time to watch the shows online. So much of my event inspiration comes straight from the runway and I can't wait to see what's hot for spring!

4. Open a Book: With the holiday weekend behind us, I finally have some time this weekend to dive into Sloan Crosley's "How'd You Get This Number?" It's been on iPad waiting to be read for months now! What are you reading right now?

5. Plant a Garden: Now the weather is beginning cool, it's time to plant some new buds on the back deck that can stand up to the cooler temps and less sunlight. I'm sad that my snapdragons are gone but I'm excited for the new blooms to come!

Have a great weekend!

Dining Uncorked {Tailgate Grill Out}

So, I told you yesterday that I would provide you with the ultimate tailgating menu today. And well here it is! With Saturday's games quickly approaching, it's time to get your grilling game face on. While some people prefer to prep ahead and have bite sized little snacks, I prefer a grilled meal cook in a parking lot behind your car. While yes, there is some prep at home, to get the full tailgating experience, I think it should be actually cooked there. Here's what I make:

Sliders:
Easy. And plus, who doesn't love this tiny, cuter version of a burger? I tend to like sliders better because it's easier to control your portion. I'm one of those people that if you put a whole burger in front of me, I'll eat the whole thing right there and feel terrible the rest of the day because I ate way to much. Sliders are perfect for this problem. Here's what you need for the perfect slider...

{1} Ground Round or Sirloin (I like these because they have a lower fat percentage than ground chuck)
{2} Worcestershire Sauce
{3} Salt and Pepper
{4} Dinner Rolls (I get the ones from the bakery at Publix because I like how fresh and homemade they are.)

Seriously that's it for the perfect slider. And they are so moist and delicious. But here is the trick. Take your meat and form little patties. Remember that they will get a little smaller in diameter when you cook them, so make them a little bigger than you would think for a slider. Now put those patties in the fridge in a tupperware and grab it right before you leave. Don't season it; don't do anything to it. Seriously. Then, right before you put them on the grill (and I mean right before), season one side with salt, pepper, and splash some Worcestershire on it. Put the seasoned side on the grill and then season the other the exact same way. Wait for them to be cooked, top the way you please, and enjoy. Then the next day, tell me that these were not the most moist, juicy burgers you have ever had! Some great things to add to these burger: grilled onion, bacon, cheese, grilled peppers, lettuce, bbq sauce. That list could go on forever! What do you put on your burger?

Grilled Potatoes:
Yes, that's right. I said grilled potatoes. They are delicious. And crispy. And just like french fries but on the grill and round. You could do wedges if you like though. I like doing potatoes better than chips at a tailgate because potatoes are more filling and since there is drinking involved I feel that it's important to be full. Okay so here is what you need first.

{1} Baking Potatoes
{2} Garlic Powder
{3} Onion Powder
{4} Salt
{5} Crushed Red Pepper
{6} Olive oil

The first thing you are going to do is obviously clean your potatoes. Slice them into rounds and boil them on the stove. You want to cook them till they are just a little soft but don't crumble to the touch. Drain and let cool. Once cool, put them in a tupperware and grab right before you walk out the door. Once at your tailgate, toss in olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and red pepper. Grill each side till grill marks appear and they are nice and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside!

Some other great grilled items that I think are easy and delicious for a tailgate....
{1} Grilled vegetables (because they are good for you)
{2} Grilled peaches (trust me on this one)
{3} Hummus and grilled pita chips (take a regular pita, brush with olive oil, sprinkle with sea salt, and grill)

What are some of your grilling favorites?

Social Graces {Tailgating}

Alright, I'm sure your thinking you know how to tailgate; that all you have to do is pick up some subs, a 12 pack of beer, and a bag of chips or two, set up shop in a parking lot near the stadium and have at it. And while that will work, I'm going to teach you how to tailgate like a champion, and in style!

So here's what you are going to need...
{1} A grill
{2} A tent
{3} A TV or radio
{4} Maybe a corn hole set. Personally, I have a FSU one that is always present.
{5} A lot of food. And I mean a lot. (Menu to follow)
{6} Drinks. Everything from beer to mixed drinks to sodas to, most importantly, water. Lots of water.
{7} Decorations. Anything in your team colors will work.
{8} A table. Oh and a table cloth.
{9} Plates, cups, napkins, silverware

Okay, so basically, here is what you do. Set up your tent. Set up your grill. Plug in your TV or radio. Decorate. Personally, I use a garnet and gold table cloth, and an FSU flag. Open a beer. Cook your food. Hang out, eat, drink, have fun, and enjoy the game! What do you have at your tailgate?

I know that was fairly basic. But, that's how I do it. Tomorrow, a delicious tailgating menu. Trust me, you won't want to miss it!

This Party Inspired by {Football}

See, I told you I was dedicating this whole week to football. Because even if you don't enjoy it, I'm sure someone in your life does, and sometimes it's important to throw them a party they enjoy too! And while there are always the necessities needed for a tailgate (which I will gladly go over later, if you stop back by tomorrow) why not make these necessities all look like footballs. I mean that is the reason you are all standing outside in the heat, sweating profusely, while (hopefully) drinking a cold beer. My personal favorite "football" idea are these mini meatball sandwiches in the corner. I mean talk about dedication placing 4 strands of cheese in place to look like laces then properly melting them so they don't loose shape! Genius, not to mention delicious. Other fabulous football ideas, football whoopie pies, football hot dogs, football pizza, or maybe even football cookies. What favorite tailgate food would you make look just like a football?

Happy Tailgating!
