Party DIY {Cherry Blossom Cake Stand}
Last week I posed a challenge, pick from three amazing cake stands and I'll give you a DIY version that looks just as good at half the price. After a few days of voting, the winner was this beautiful green cherry blossom cake stand from Whitney Smith Pottery. While the original is a ceramic beauty, I opted for glass when making mine. All I needed was a little paint, some flower earrings with the posts cut off and a bottle of gorilla glue to make my bright and cheery version perfect for displaying decadent desserts. Note that this cake stand should be hand washed. Here's the steps to make it yourself!
:: Supplies ::
8" Tall Glass Vase
Glass Dinner Plate
Mint Paint
Paintbrush
Gorilla Glue
Flower Pendants (I found cherry blossom stud earrings at Target that I cut the posts off.)
:: Directions ::
1. Begin by painting the inside of the vase and the underneath of the plate.
2. Once both are painted, let dry for 10 to 15 minutes. Paint a second coat on each.
3. Let the vase air dry while placing the plate in the oven at 350 degrees. Let bake for 15-20 minutes. This will help the paint set and insure less chipping.
4. Remove vase from oven and let cool completely.
5. Once cool, place Gorilla glue on the rim of the vase and center plate on top.
6. Put a dot of Gorilla glue on the back of each flower and arrange in two clusters on either side of the plate.
7. Let the assembled stand dry for a few hours before use.
8. Top with decadent desserts and impress guests!
