A Little Friday Lovin' {Stripes}

So, I'm a little bit obsessed with horizontal stripes right now. Apparently, they are supposed to make you look wider, but frankly "I just don't give a damn." (Who can name that movie?!) I'm kind of obsessed with how classic they are. Stripes are a great pattern to add to any soiree. They bring in a visual interest to the room while still keeping your event classic.  I mean, look at the table in the top right hand corner. It is way more visually appealing than if the striped table cloth were replaced with a solid white one.  I want to know, do you have the same infatuation with stripes as I do? Or are they a little too much for you?

Remember...Life's a Party, Plan Accordingly! Have a great weekend! xo

Dining Uncorked {Brown Sugar Banana Bread Pancakes}

So, I'm going to be honest. I've never actually made these pancakes before. But, seriously, how bad can they be? I'm talking about brown sugar and banana bread, in the form of a pancake, that's kinda healthy because it's actually made with whole wheat.  This recipe combines my two favorite childhood foods. When I was younger and would stay with my grandparents, every morning I was there my grandmother and I would experiment with different flavors of pancakes for breakfast. And, my favorite thing that my mom makes, still to this day, is her banana bread. It's honestly to die for. Swear. Anyways, this recipe kind of hits home and I can't wait to try it! Here is the recipe from How Sweet It Is in case you want to try it too!

Whole Wheat Brown Sugar Banana Bread Pancakes
makes 12 pancakes
2 cups whole wheat pastry flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
2/3 cup milk
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
3 large ripe bananas, mashed
2 tablespoons butter, melted
In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a large bowl. Measure out the milk and add the vanilla extract to it. Whisk together the dry ingredients and add in milk and vanilla, stirring to combine. The mixture will still be dry. Add in mashed bananas and mix. Add in melted butter and stir until batter is somewhat smooth.
Heat a skillet or grilled on medium heat. Using a 1/3 cup measure, spoon batter into rounds and cook until bubbles form on top – about 2-3 minutes. Flip and cook for a minute or two more. Repeat with remaining batter. Serve hot with butter and syrup, or the vanilla maple glaze.
Note: if you don’t have/can’t find whole wheat pastry flour, use 1 cup of regular whole wheat and 1 cup of all purpose. Or 2 cups of all purpose.

Social Graces {No Thank You}

Growing up, I used to turn my nose up at just about anything my mother put on my plate. And let's not even talk about the holidays when there were more "weird" foods than normal. Well, back then my mom used to make me take a "no thank you serving". Basically, it was a small serving so if I didn't like something, I could at least say I tried it. I mean between her and my father's rule of you have to try a new food at least once a week, I have become the most flexible eater. I will eat anything now! Well...almost. Anyways, as I've grown, I've realized it's a nice thing to do, especially if you are a guest at someone's home. Plus, you never know, you could end up really liking what they are serving!

Anyways, try this delicious recipe I found from Lauren's Latest! It's the perfect "no thank you serving" size!

This Party Inspired By {Margaritas}

There's something about the summer that makes me crave margaritas. I love them. I'm kind of obsessed and kind of crave them all the time. Does anyone else have this problem? Anyways, in my current obsession, I have found inspiration in the limey flavor. While not normally one to gravitate towards bright colors, when throwing a margarita bash, it's only necessary to deck the room with lime details.  Not to mention, when throwing a margarita soiree, your food should match accordingly. Try margarita cupcakes and guacamole bruschetta. Pretty delish right? Amp up the cuteness by serving your margaritas in mini Patron bottles and your guests will swoon over the adorableness!

This Week I Feel...Refreshed

After a long, hectic week of late meetings, packing, unpacking, cleaning, re cleaning, projects, and more cleaning, I'm finally beginning to feel settled and refreshed. Does moving make anyone else feel refreshed? I'm yes, obviously I hate it while it's happening. But, after it's over, I've tossed so much during the move that I'm frankly just too lazy and don't care enough about it to move, that I feel lighter and almost like a new person. It's weird. Anyways, as I'm decorating this new place (I was over my old decor, and this place is 3 times the size so I need more stuff!) I'm drawing my inspiration from navys and whites. I feel it just keeps playing on the refreshed vibe I'm getting right now. I'm turning my home into a sanctuary to come home to at the end of the day!

On a side, but more relevant, note, navy is a great neutral color for any event. It acts like a black or brown but brings something a little more special to the color pallet than black or brown. Personally, I'm kind of obsessed. It's turning into a problem.

A Little Friday Lovin' {Globe Lights}

So, I kind of have this obsession with outdoor weddings. Frankly, I just think (unless you have an amazing indoor venue) that they are much prettier. But, my obsession with outdoor weddings has grown. It has now escalated to outdoor weddings at night, lit by nothing but globe lights and candles. They bring a soft light and a romantic glow to the evening. I mean, if it's a wedding shouldn't there always be a little romantic something involved? There is always something interesting to do with globe lighting. The possibilities are endless. You could outline your dance floor, hang them over your alter, or even center them over each table for concentrated light. How do you feel about globe lighting? Over used or perfect?

Dining Uncorked {Chicken Meatballs}

So, I don't know about you, but I have this obsession with Rachael Ray! I think she is adorable and I'm kind of obsessed with all of her recipes. They're great for someone like me who is incredibly busy and likes to make things in the kitchen that sound really complicated but aren't. So a couple of days ago, I tried a couple of her tapas style recipes because I like noshing more than eating a big meal. One of the ones I tried was these chicken meatballs with a sweet peanut sauce. I must say they were rather delicious! And, incredibly easy. They're a perfect quick appetizer to make for your next bash. The one think I did different was that I didn't toss them in the sauce first. I left it on the side for people to decide how much they wanted. I did make some other delish dishes that I will be sure to share in the coming weeks. Here's the dets on the chicken meatballs...

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 lb. ground chicken
  • 1/2 cup chopped cilantro
  • 1/4 cup dried breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, grated
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 2 tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup peanut butter
  • 2 tbsp. soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp. sugar
  • 3 tbsp. sesame oil
  • Chopped peanuts, for garnish

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Mix chicken, cilantro, breadcrumbs, onion, garlic, salt and pepper; roll into 1-tbsp. balls. In medium skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Add meatballs and cook through, 6 to 8 minutes. Meanwhile, mix remaining ingredients (except peanuts) and warm in microwave. Toss meatballs with half of sauce and sprinkle with peanuts. Serve on toothpicks with remaining sauce for dipping

Social Graces {No Gifts Please}

So here is an interesting situation for you. I'm planning a birthday for the funniest, liveliest 90 year old woman you have ever met! Well, instead of asking for gift for her birthday, she is asking that donations be made to her favorite charity. While personally I think it is a brilliant plan, especially for the woman who has everything, I understand it could be a bit confusing for guests. I mean there is the whole dilemma of how much should I give. The simple answer is however much you feel. But, that varies. A simple rule to remember is to give as much to the honorees charity as you would spend on a gift. I like to give a little more than that though just because it is going to charity. And, the way I think about it is that it is probably going to someone who needs it a little more than I do.

This Party Inspired By {Stock the Bar}

So have you heard about this? It's the newest thing in wedding showers. It's called a stock the bar party! I'm dying! The basic concept is guests are to bring their favorite bottle of liquor (or wine) or anything a bar could use such as a shaker, glasses, or ice bucket and your favorite drink recipe. I'm so obsessed with this party idea that I'm trying to will my friends to get married so I can throw them one. Basically, I like it so much, I'm considering throwing one for myself as my housewarming party if I didn't think it was a little rude to expect guests to bring a bottle of alcohol that I don't plan on drinking right away to my house! What do you think? Would you want a stock the bar party for your shower?

This Week I Feel...Bubbly

You may be wondering why this week I feel "bubbly" and have decked this post out in pink and gold. Well, for one reason of course! The pink and gold represent pink and regular champagne (bubbly!). And I'm sure you're wondering what has brought on the overflow of bubbly. Well, for a few reasons of course! One, because who doesn't love a glass of champagne every now and then (or everyday?) And because I have this new theory that everyday should be a day of celebration. I mean life's a party...plan accordingly. And there is nothing better to celebrate with than a glass of champagne! And lastly, because I'm moving apartments this week and that itself is reason for a celebratory toast (If you knew my current neighbors you would be this excited to move too!).  Plus, I love the color combo. It's just so romantic and girly!

Now go and celebrate your Monday! xoxo

A Little Friday Lovin' {Kraft Paper}

Okay, so you know how in movies you see gorgeous women carrying gorgeous flowers wrapped in gorgeous kraft paper? Well, every time I see that, I go green with envy because all my flowers ever come in is clear plastic! This could explain why when ever I see a kraft paper accent, I flip. I think it's cute, chic, perfect, and gives this amazing down home, I did it myself, but it actually looks incredibly pulled together look to every event! Being from the south, I think it's important to make sure your guests feel at home.  Kraft paper accents such as menus, wrapping paper, and envelopes are fab! What do you think of kraft paper accents? Would you add them to your event?

Dining Uncorked {Marshmallow Goodness}

This past weekend I took a little time to experiment with fun, easy desserts! I've figured out recently that when it comes to desserts, people don't want  a huge serving anymore. They just want something that they can have a bite of and completely enjoy! This started out as a bite size s'more. A marshmallow, dipped in chocolate and rolled in graham cracker crumbs. It was good till R. decided to kick it up a notch and heat up some peanut butter. It then evolved into utter deliciousness. Imagine a Reece's Cup with a graham cracker crust and marshmallow center. That's exactly what this was and it was out of this world amazing! I suggest you try ASAP!

Ingredients:
-Chocolate
-Peanut Butter
-Marshmallows
-Graham Cracker Crumbs

Directions:
-Heat the chocolate until melted. I used one of those little tubs designed for melting.
-Heat the peanut butter for appx. 30 seconds or until warm and stirable.
-Pour the graham cracker crumbs into a bowl
-Dip one side of the marshmallow in the chocolate. Dip the other side in the peanut butter.
-Dip one side of the marshmallow into the graham cracker crumbs and enjoy!

Social Graces {Please Don't Wear White}

It's simple. Please don't wear white. No, I'm not talking about everyday. I'm just talking about to weddings or wedding related events. Unless you are the bride, please keep all white garments hanging in your closet and not on your body.  It's already been your big day or will be your big day one day soon.  She wouldn't do it to you, so don't do it to her. Please let the bride soak up the amazingness of all her wedding festivities by not wearing white! I mean how would you feel if someone besides you was wearing white to your wedding?

This Party Inspired By {Alice in Wonderland}

A couple of weeks ago on a garage sale outing, I picked up an old, leather bound copy of Alice in Wonderland.  And since I seem to be lacking the time to read it, I figured creating a little get together inspired by the intriguing story would give me the motivation I need to finally pick it up and read! I can't get over all the quirky details of an AIW bash. Eat me and drink me tags appear as if you didn't already know what to do.  And, I'm obsessed with the giant clock, keys, tea cups, Mad Hatter, and even the Queen of Hearts. It's all just so...pretty to me! I'm dying to do this for a little girl's birthday! I would be perfect.

This Week I Feel...Colorful

So, I would like to start with a little story today. Last Christmas while out shopping for my gift, seeming all lost and confused, the lovely sales associate decided to provide R. with a little help. She proceeded to ask him, "What's your girlfriend's favorite color?" His response, "Black. Or maybe white." While yes, it may be just about the only color I ever wear, it is not my favorite color.  Thus, I have been inspired lately by Kate Spade's new campaign to Live Colorfully! Incorporating extra pops of color in every way is a must now. I'm dying over the "pop" bar with a multitude of colored sodas, the colorful paisley cake, and the delicious looking bright macaroons. Even Miranda Lambert is deciding to live colorfully with her eye catching bouquet of broaches given to her at her bridal shower! Looking to have your own colorful soiree? Try having a color scheme of more than just one or two colors like the couple who had their wedding party in a rainbow of dresses, or the yellow, green, teal, and pink bash in the right hand corner! Even the reception at the bottom center is not too over the top for a colorfully lived life! So here is a little challenge for this lovely Monday, as you reach for that black get up to head to work, put it back and instead reach for something full of color and see if it brightens up your seemingly gloomy work day!

Sunday Brunch {Frittata}

Who doesn't love brunch? I'm pretty sure it's my favorite faux meal! I mean think about it. Weekend brunch is the only time where you can sleep in and still be able to get breakfast food where ever you go. Plus brunch constitutes mimosas. Breakfast does not. Anyways, today we did brunch at home and I decided to make a frittata.  The best thing about frittatas is that you can pretty much add everything but the kitchen sink and it's still good. Every time I make it, it's different.  I just add whatever I can find in the fridge and that's it. So, today's frittata included green and red peppers, tomatoes, spinach, and hot sausage. By the way, it was delicious and the whole thing is now gone. So, since there are no set ingredients for a frittata, here is a little basic step by step so you can make your own, however you please!

{Step 1} If you are including meat that has not been cooked already, cook your meat and set it to the side.  For example, we put sausage in it, so I had R. cook the sausage (I'm afraid to cook anything where grease pops.) and let it drain on a plate while I did the rest.

{Step 2} In a separate (oven safe) pan, begin to cook what veggies need to cook down. So, since I needed to wilt the spinach, I cooked it first.

{Step 3} Add whatever veggies do not need as much time to cook.  Example. I wanted my peppers to be a little crunchy still so I added them next, followed by the tomatoes.

{Step 4} Add your eggs. The number you add is entirely up to you. It depends on the size and how egg-y you like it. I like when the add ins are more prominent than the egg, so when I make it for just R. and I, I usually do 6-8 eggs.  Anyways, crack them in a bowl, add salt and pepper to taste, mix together and pour in your pan with the vegetables.

{Step 5} As the egg cooks on the bottom, with a rubber spatula, begin to scrape down the sides to let the runny egg on top move to the bottom and cook.  It's almost like scrambling an egg.

{Step 6} When the egg is about half way cooked, add in the meat.  Move it around to incorporate.  Also, in this step, add in the cheese if you so wish to use it. Obviously, since my recent milk allergy discovery, R. has had to enjoy his frittata sans cheese. But, honestly, I don't think it really makes that much of a difference whether it's there or not.

{Step 7} When the egg is almost throughly cooked, but still slightly runny, add more cheese to the top (if you included cheese) and put it under the broiler until the cheese is slightly browned and bubbly.

{Step 8} Pull the frittata out, turn the broiler off, cut a slice, pour a mimosa, and ENJOY!

So, I understand this seems like a lot of steps for one little egg dish, but it only take about 10 minutes from start to finish. Swear. Just wondering, what would you put in your frittata?

A Little Friday Lovin' {Bow Ties}

I've been so rude lately, I've completely forgotten all about the boys! So, I've decided to give a little lovin' to the ever stylish, unmistakably southern, and absolutely adorable bow tie! I've been trying to persuade R. to wear one for a while now (and maybe reading this with be that little extra push I need to convince him) because I think they are just so irresistible! I mean honestly, is that dog not the cutest thing you have ever seen? There are so many patterns and colors, your guy could wear a different one everyday and never repeat! How do you feel about bow ties? Would you make him wear put one on, like I'm about to make R. do?

Hope you all have a good weekend! xo

Dining Uncorked {Margarita Chicken}

Nothing screams summer to me like a refreshing margarita. Trying to plan out a menu for this weekend, I decided to influence it by none other than the margarita! Fresh berry margaritas (I'll share the recipe next week.), a big salad with a citrus lime dressing, and of course margarita chicken skewers courtesy of Sandra Lee!  I stumbled upon this recipe and was dying to share.  Here it is!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds skinless, boneless chicken breasts, cut into 12 strips
  • 1 10-ounce can frozen margarita mix, thawed
  • 2/3 cup tequila
  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 2 tablespoons chicken seasoning
  • Vegetable oil, for the grill
  • Baby arugula and lime halves, for serving

Directions

Place the chicken, margarita mix, tequila, cilantro and chicken seasoning in a large resealable plastic bag; squeeze out the air and seal. Massage the bag to combine the ingredients. Refrigerate for 30 minutes to 1 hour. Meanwhile, soak 12 wooden skewers in water.
Preheat a grill to medium. Remove the chicken from the marinade; thread each piece onto a skewer. Oil the grill grate; grill the chicken skewers for 1 to 2 minutes per side, or until the meat is cooked through. Serve on a platter with arugula and lime.
I'll give you an update as to how mine turns out and the little adjustments I make this weekend! If you make it, let me know how it turns out!

Social Graces {Be On Time}

I'm sure you all know the saying "fashionably late". Well I'm here to tell you, it's no longer fashionable! There is nothing that bothers me more than being late.  I honestly start to panic when I think I'm even going to be a minute late.  When showing up to an event, I think it's incredibly important to be on time, maybe even a little early. Someone once told me when you're early, you're on time, when you're on time, you're late, and when you're late,  you're dead.  It's stuck with me ever since! It shows your host that their event is important to you when you make the effort to show up on time. What is your reaction to being on time? Is it as important to you as it is to me?

Party Inspired {Sunshine)

In typical Florida fashion, the past couple of weeks have brought torrential down pours every afternoon. And, it has left me longing for more appearances from the shimmer of the sun. I have found myself incorporating yellow everywhere I can like my new bed skirt and throw pillows.  Yellow, an ever popular and bright summer shade, is sure to brighten your soiree up, even if you just incorporate it in splashes.  Try it on your shoes or the rim of your champagne flutes.  Or, get creative, and have life like yellow flowers popping off of your cake! How would you incorporate bursts of yellow into your daily life?

A Little Friday Lovin' {Chalkboards}

When I was younger, I used to hate going to the chalkboard at school! The dust would get all over my fingers, and I found it incredible difficult to write. But now, I can't seem to get enough of them.  I even have one painted on the all of my kitchen.  They are the perfect little accessory for your party. Since they can be reused time after time, I don't see why everyone shouldn't have a couple small signs on hand at all times to add a little chic, eco friendly factor to your soiree. A chalkboard fits easily into any theme and can be incorporated in so many ways.  My favorite is the surfboard that has been painted with chalkboard paint and turned into a menu for a beach wedding. So unique! I'm also loving the sandwich board, and I must admit I even built one for myself to use for all tasks from a score board for a back yard game of corn hole to a wedding sign! Let me know, would you incorporate chalk boards into your event?
